Heat Pump Repair - Charlotte NC

Do you think you need heat pump repair or replacement?

Here’s a list of things to check before you call:

  1. Make sure your thermostat is calling for cooling or heating. Turn the temperature setting up or down at least 3 degrees from the current temperature reading

  2. Check your air filters to make sure they are clean.  A dirty air filter can lead to a heat pump repair.

  3. Is the indoor blower running and air coming from the supply vents?

  4. Does the air coming from your vents feel cool to the touch during a/c mode and warm during the heating mode?

  5. If the blower is not running check the circuit breaker for the indoor electric furnace, it may be “tripped”

  6. Next check to see if the outdoor condensing unit is running?

  7. If the unit is not running check the circuit breaker and outdoor disconnect for the unit.

  8. If the outdoor unit is covered with ice, there could be a problem with unit going into defrost in the winter. Please contact a licensed HVAC company.

  9. If you see ice on the copper line outside of the outdoor unit there may be a problem with the system air flow or possibly a refrigerant leak.  Please contact a licensed HVAC company.

Is a Heat Pump the Right Choice?

At Patterson Heating and A/C, we understand replacing your home’s heating and cooling system is a major decision. You may be thinking about a heat pump system versus an air conditioner and gas furnace? What should you do? Here are some thoughts….. The Charlotte area provides an ideal climate for a heat pump. Our weather is typically mild to moderate most of the year. A heat pump will provide cooling in the summer time just like a traditional air conditioner. In the winter, it reverses cycle and becomes the heater for your home. Now let’s learn a little more about heat pumps.

Benefits of a Heat Pump System

Heat pumps are a great choice to provide comfort for your home or business. They offer very consistent even temperatures for your home.  Heat pump run times tend to be longer than a typical air conditioner and gas furnace system, which helps indoor air quality in the home.  They use electricity to transfer heat from one location to another versus burning fossil fuels.  This makes a heat pump environmentally friendly.  They run solely off of electricity which can lower your home’s utility costs over other fossil fuels such as gas, oil, or propane. Today’s heat pumps have a high a much higher COP (Coefficient of Performance) than older systems.  Some of the more efficient heat pumps today range from 3.5 – 4.0 COP; meaning for every dollar spent on energy consumption, the system produces 3.5 – 4 times the heating or cooling for your home. Heat pumps are an excellent choice to heat and cool your home in Charlotte and can save you money!
